Conditions in Pregnancy and What to Watch for:

Anemia – Pregnant women can develop low iron, to treat this you may need to take iron supplements. Your provider will monitor your blood counts throughout your pregnancy.

High Blood Pressure – a condition that can develop in pregnancy, it can progress to a more severe form known as pre-eclampsia. This is why your provider checks your blood pressure at each prenatal visit. Symptoms of high blood pressure may include: headaches, blurred vision or seeing black spots, abdominal pain, nausea, emesis, excessive swelling. Should you develop any of these symtpoms you need to seek medical attention.

Cholestasis – is a liver condition that occurs in late pregnancy. The condition triggers intense itching, but without a rash. Itching usually occurs on the hands and feet but can also affect other parts of the body’.  If you develop these symptoms you should talk with your health care provider.  Please see https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/cholestasis-of-pregnancy/symptoms-causes/syc-20363257  for more information.
